President's Message

Each year the Dallas AFP sends three board members to Washington, DC, for the annual AFP Regional Officers Meeting (ROM). This year, with the help of a free registration won at last year’s ROM, as well as the support of the employers of some of our board members, we had seven representatives in attendance: Karyn Brown, Laurel Egan Kenny, Matt Roush, Eric Thibo, Ron Trimmer, Ray Vines, and me. We were the largest regional AFP contingent there, and people definitely took notice. Dallas AFP is known as “the one to watch” when it comes to best practices.

We left DC with a number of great ideas gleaned from roundtable discussions with our peers in the areas of Sponsorships & Partnerships; Regional Meeting Best Practices; Growing Membership; Creating Value for Your Association, and Board Management. In addition, we also brought home three awards: for Best in Board and Committee Management, Best Membership Growth Initiative and Best Table Display!

Our table display showed Dallas AFP board members “in the (White) House,” and invited our fellow regional AFP board members to join us there, by having a small photo taken, printed, and affixed to a cutout of the White House. Many thanks to Laurel Egan Kenny, Communications/Social Media Chair, for all the hard work that went into creating the display! Be on the lookout for the table display and our awards, which will be showcased at the August meeting.

In the weeks, months and even years ahead, we look forward to implementing new and different ideas to help strengthen this organization. Stay tuned for more!

Big D Financial Conference 2017

Conference Sponsor: FISTM

Join over 250 Treasury Management, Banking and Finance Professionals in networking, learning and celebrating at the 2017 Big D Financial Conference! Twenty-five educational sessions will be offered, featuring prominent professionals sharing their experience and knowledge on the latest trends and issues surrounding treasury, banking, finance and economics.

We will kick off the morning with a general session and workshop entitled “Courageous Conversations in Business” with Joanna Lacey, sponsored by Bank of Texas. Our lunchtime keynote, “Numbers Don't Lie, But They Don't Tell the Whole Story,” will feature former DAFP officer Codie Sanchez, Founder and CEO of Codie Ventures, LLC, and Head of LatAm/Offshore, First Trust Portfolios.

We are currently updating the conference app and should have it published in late August so you will be able to see the different class offerings and plan your day ahead of time.

*(Includes membership for the remaining 2017 meetings and activities to be held October 2017 to January 2018)

I am actively seeking volunteers willing to act as a session introducer/monitor on the day of the conference. With enough volunteers, each person would only need to cover one session. It requires getting to the session a little early to manage the sign in sheet, introduce the speakers and manage the evaluations for that session.

Please let me know if you’re willing to act in this capacity. I really appreciate everyone’s help!

The Art of Treasury and Finance…….put yourself in the picture!

We continue forming our TEXPO 2018 committees. If you’d like to plug in to a long-term commitment or have only a few hours to spare, we want you to volunteer on one of our many committees. Please drop an e-mail to texpo@DallasAFP.org and we’ll get back in touch with you. Our volunteers are the reason the Dallas TEXPO is always such a great success!

Sponsors and Exhibitors…..be part of the collage!

If your company is interested in participating in TEXPO 2018, the online store is open! Sponsors and/or exhibitors can now reserve their selections by making their payments through the TEXPO website and visiting the Sponsors and Exhibitors tabs: www.texpoconference.org. A full prospectus is available by contacting texpo@DallasAFP.org. Keep in mind, sponsors and exhibitors receive complimentary event registration(s) so there’s definitely a benefit for your participation.

At our membership meeting last Thursday we announced a sponsor/exhibitor incentive for our DAFP members. You can earn up to $100 by providing us leads!!

  • If you have any leads for companies whom you think would benefit from being a sponsor or exhibitor, please send those leads to texpo@DallasAFP.org. We ask that you let the company know we’ll be reaching out but that’s all you need to do.
  • If the lead turns into a paid sponsorship or exhibitor, you can earn cash if the following requirements are met:
    • The sponsor or exhibitor cannot have participated in either TEXPO 2016 or TEXPO 2017—we’re looking for new names.
    • The lead must come from a DAFP member.
    • Once the sponsor/exhibitor pays $4,000 or greater, the member will receive $100.
    • Once the sponsor/exhibitor pays $2,000 or greater, the member will receive $50.

Lastly, we’d like to ask your help in getting the word out about sponsor and exhibitor opportunities. Would you be willing to share TEXPO 2018 information with your Linked In contacts? If yes, please e-mail  texpo@DallasAFP.org and we’ll provide you with a “script” you can cut and paste into Linked In. And, if you happen to see a TEXPO 2018 post from one of your connections, please be sure to “like” it!
