Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
2200 N. Pearl Street

President's Message

Your Dallas AFP board convened for our annual board retreat on Sunday and Monday, January 14-15, and spent nearly two full days focused on both strategies and tactics for the year (and years) ahead. In addition to our perennial goal of driving membership, the board also agreed to focus in the year ahead on “operational effectiveness.” One of the components of that goal, for us, is data integrity. With that in mind, we ask that all members (or past members who have a profile in our online system and are reading this), please visit the web site and ensure your profile details are up to date. To update your profile, go to dallasafp.org and, in the box with the heading “My Profile,” click on “Manage Profile” and then choose the area in which you need to make changes.

In case you were not aware, the name on the nametag you pick up to wear at each meeting is driven by the name in your profile. Also, for any of you who now have the FP&A certification, know that there is now an explicit option for choosing “FP&A” under “Certifications,” instead of just choosing “Other.”

The second component of our data integrity efforts will be to clean up our database. We want to make sure that we are communicating only with people that want to hear from us, and that we are able to do so, which means we have some e-mail addresses to correct, some old contacts to delete, etc., in the weeks ahead. We think this effort might even bring some former members back to us, with whom perhaps we have just lost touch! If you have a friend or colleague whose DAFP membership has lapsed, please help us to bring them back into the fold!

We have an exciting year ahead of us, DAFP! Joan Calhoun is working hard to line up some great programs for us, and we are only about two months away from TEXPO. Fasten your seatbelts!

I look forward to seeing many of you at our first meeting at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas on February 15, where I’ll have the chance to introduce you to a colleague of mine, Preston Ash, who will speak to us about “FinTech Frenzy.”

Financially yours,
- Matt D.

While traditional financial institutions have long operated by housing multiple products and financial services for their customers in conveniently located brick and mortar offices, highly specialized tech startups have emerged over the past decade that are challenging and changing the world of banking. In the face of these new fintech firms, will traditional financial institutions be able to adapt and challenge the opposition?

Join Us February 15 for our first Dinner meeting of 2018.

TEXPO® Talk

The Art of Ethics!
The TEXPO® 2018 committee is very excited to announce our Monday Opening General Session keynote speaker, Andrew Urich, Associate Professor of Management and the Eastin Chair in Talent Development at the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University. Andrew will be discussing Ethics Awareness. If you had the pleasure of hearing Professor Urich speak at our Big D Conference a couple of years ago, you know we’re in for a fabulous..and energetic…opening session.

The Art of Volunteering!
We are within 60 days of TEXPO…..wow!! And, as we get closer to the opening of TEXPO®, we have several specific volunteer/donation requests. If you can help us, please send an e-mail to texpo@DallasAFP.org

  • We need a copier for the registration desk Saturday – Tuesday. Does anyone have one that could be loaned to TEXPO for this time period? We will gladly acknowledge the donor through signage.
  • We need quite a bit of printing (conference/session evaluations; party drink tickets; welcome letter; party flyers; party drink tickets; etc.) Would you and your company be willing to help us behind the scenes with our copy needs?
  • We need several items developed in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. If you’re strong in Microsoft Office Suite, would you be willing to volunteer your time behind the scenes?
  • We need informal photographers to take candid pics at the TopGolf event, welcome reception, Monday night party and throughout the conference. If you’re a photographer, do you have time to help?
  • We need a VIP reception coordinator who will assist with invitations, decorations, and organizing the pre-luncheon events on Monday and Tuesday.
  • We need people to help introduce speakers in each education session, provide speaker gifts, and announce housekeeping items.
  • We need people to help stuff attendee bags on Saturday before TEXPO (April 7) at the Sheraton.

The Art of the Website!
Check out our website, www.texpoconference.org, for a listing of our education offerings for TEXPO® 2018.

The Art of Registering!
Haven’t registered for TEXPO® or TopGolf yet? Note that prices increase on 2/21/18. To get the lowest prices of the conference, register today. Registration can be completed on our website, www.texpoconference.org .
