President's Message

On Saturday, August 26, ten Dallas AFP members and two “plus ones” volunteered at the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), to help combat hunger in our area. The numbers around “food insecurity” in North Texas are staggering. NTFB provides access to more than 190,000 meals each day for hungry children, seniors and families through a network of more than 1,000 programs and 200 Partner Agencies in a 13-county service area. In fiscal year 2016, NTFB provided access to 70 million meals, but the need for hunger relief in North Texas continues to grow. In response, the NTFB recently launched a 10-year plan to provide access to 92 million nutritious meals annually by 2025 . It was great to able to play a small part in helping the NTFB. Check out their web site to learn more about opportunities for you and/or your organization to be involved!

A conversation I had during a break at the volunteer event reminded me that DAFP’s purpose is two-fold: “to offer continuing Treasury/Finance education in the local market by (1) providing quality programs on the important issues affecting the treasury and financial profession and (2) developing a local peer networking group for our members to share ideas.” I think many of us know DAFP best for the first tenet—our quality programs offering continuing education credits, but perhaps less so the second tenet—peer networking.

That day, I talked with a new member, a corporate practitioner who is a certified treasury professional (CTP). As many of you know, many corporates run a very “lean” treasury organization. This member, the sole treasury employee in her organization, had been recruited to DAFP by one of our banker members. She has no resources within her own organization to help maintain and hone her treasury skills, so she turned to DAFP. With new members like this, the ability of our organization to serve as a network of peers continues to grow.

Do you know someone who might benefit from connecting with DAFP? If so, please take the time to encourage that person to join us as a member, or to come to a meeting as your guest so they can try us out!

Financially yours,
- Matt D.

September Monthly Meeting
