President's Message

The Dallas AFP was well represented at this year’s annual AFP Regional Officers Meeting (ROM) in Washington, D.C., with Samantha Bell, Joan Calhoun, Connor Cosgrove, Laurel Egan Kenny, Eric Thibo, Ron Trimmer, Ray Vines, and me in attendance. As in years past, we were the largest regional AFP contingent there, and we took advantage of the opportunity to share our own best practices as a board, as well as to learn from others. DAFP Vice President Ron Trimmer served as a co-chair of the ROM event, and I had the privilege of serving with two other regional AFP presidents (including former Ft. Worth AFP president and current DAFP member Jessica Key) on a panel on board service. We have won multiple awards at ROM consistently for the last 10 years, and the table display for the last 5, and this year was no different. Our submission for best meeting or networking event, our winter social, “Roar and Soar,” won in the ROM Idea Fair—thank you, Trae Lynne Atchison!—and we also won best table display, which garners DAFP a free registration to next year’s ROM—thank you, Laurel Egan Kenny!!

As you have seen from communications, both direct to you via e-mail, and on our various social media platforms, we are getting into full swing for this year’s Big D Treasury and Financial Conference! We look forward to seeing you there. See below for further details.

2018 Big D Treasury & Finance Conference



Join colleagues from the treasury management, banking and finance professions in networking, learning and celebrating at the 2018 Big D Treasury & Financial Conference! The conference will offer 25 educational sessions, featuring industry leaders sharing their experiences and knowledge on the latest trends and issues surrounding treasury, banking, finance and economics.

We will kick off the morning with a general session “Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire,” with body language expert and keynote speaker Traci Brown, who specializes in training others to read body language to prevent fraud and manage risk. Our lunchtime keynote, “Maximizing Engagement,” will feature Daren Martin, “The Culture Architect.”

We are currently updating the conference app and should have it published in late August so you will be able to see the different class offerings and map out your day in advance.

DAFP Members: The conference is included in your membership!

Non-Members: $275 (includes membership for the remainder of 2018 : October and November meetings and winter social/networking event)

Community Involvement Event

Our next community involvement event will take place on September 15 with Minnie’s Food Pantry. Minnie’s Food Pantry has a mission “to provide healthy meals and resources by way of red carpet treatment to those in need.”

On September 15, our volunteer experience may include interacting with clients, providing concierge services, cart running, stocking shelves or administrative tasks.
