President's Message

The 2018 Big D Treasury & Finance Conference was a great success! I believe the final registration count was 306, a new record, breaking last year’s record of 294. We had two great keynotes and 25 top-notch breakout sessions. Thanks to this year’s chair, Kari Ellis, and all those who served on the conference planning committee for all of their hard work!

Now, in addition to finalizing all the details for our October and November 2017 dinner meetings and the January social event, your DAFP board will be focused on 2019. At the October meeting we will vote to confirm Ron Trimmer as our president for the two years ahead, and you’ll also be presented with the budget for 2019 (to be voted on at the November meeting).

Join us for our next dinner meeting on October 18 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. David Rathke, Item Processing Product Manager at FIS, and I will bring you up to speed on the latest developments in checks and faster payments!

I look forward to seeing many of you at the national AFP conference, November 4-7, in Chicago. On Sunday, November 4, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Dallas AFP will be staffing the AFP booth in the exhibit hall at the conference. Stop by and say hello!

Financially yours,

- Matt D.

2018 Big D Treasury & Finance Conference

The 2018 Big D Annual Treasury & Finance Conference is in the books!

Another recorded setting year with engagement, networking, education, sponsorship and over 306 registrations; we packed the Las Colinas Marriott with the best Treasury and Finance talent in the DFW area! I would like to thank everyone who served on the conference planning committee and contributed to the success of this year’s event. Their dedication and commitment to delivering a high value event was evident in every interaction and the hard work that they brought to the conference planning and execution process:

  • John Smithson III
  • Eric Thibo
  • Matt Davies
  • Tammy Foy
  • Jessica Key
  • Steven Bohn
  • Andrew Witkoff
  • Laurel Egan-Kenny
  • Bad Petraitis
  • Ron Trimmer
  • Ruben Gonzales
  • Melanie Larrabee
  • James Beare
  • Bea Saldivar
  • Archie Woods
  • Joan Calhoun
  • Michele Cook

A very special thank you to Kim Lott and KML Management who provided conference support during our very compressed time frame, and day of event support!

Our Keynote speakers really raised the bar for us this year, with body-language expert Traci Brown really getting us warmed up in the opening session and Daren Martin, “The Culture Architect” being very thought-provoking at lunch. My favorite takeaway from Daren was, “When the student is ready, the teacher arrives” and “Leave it better than you found it; including people.”

Thank you to ALL our amazing panelist and speakers who provided us with 25 informative breakouts, including some that were really “out of the box.” Additionally, our conference app generated a lot of interest and we couldn’t have done all of this without the phenomenal support of our sponsors; we had record sponsorship dollars raised this year (thanks especially to DAFP’s Sponsorship Chair, Connor Cosgrove!)

The 2019 conference committee will be forming soon. Stay tuned for details on you can get involved next year!

It was an honor to serve the Dallas AFP membership as your Big D Conference Chair, and I truly hope that in doing so, we as a committee “Left it better than we found it; including people!”

Warm Regards,

- Kari E.

Community Involvement Event

On Saturday, September 15th, the Community Involvement Committee held its third Networking Community Involvement event at Minnie’s Food Pantry. I would like to give a special thanks to Lisa, Joan, Stacy, Matt, Andrew and his son for volunteering at this event.

Our group was presented with the task of reviewing expiration dates, sorting nonperishable food items and then creating individual food boxes. Together, we filled approximately 175 food boxes. This act of kindness will help Minnie’s Food Pantry to provide a nutritional food item to families in Plano.

Thanks!

- Salina M.
