October 15th: Big D Financial Conference at Omni Mandalay at Las Colinas

President's Message

Hard to believe we are already heading into October, but we will gladly welcome some cooler weather. I hope all of you enjoyed the recent BigD Financial Conference held at the Omni Mandalay in Las Colinas. We were excited to see over 200 attendees partake in such a great networking and educational experience. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we were allowed some fun additions for this conference, so we sincerely thank them all for taking this event to the next level. Get ready for more enlightening events such as our upcoming monthly meeting at the DoubleTree Hotel regarding current trends in the oil and gas industry. It will be very interesting to hear about their risk management strategies.

Please keep offering your feedback to us on how we can continue to enhance your membership value. We have opened up the membership renewal for 2016 and would love for you to help us prepare for next year!

For those who will be attending the AFP Annual Conference in Denver, please come by and see us at the AFP booth #429. Dallas has the opportunity to represent our local chapter on Sunday, October 18th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm right after the Opening General Session. Hope to see you there!

- Christy

October 2015 Monthly Meeting - Register Now

Event Date: Thursday, October 15, 2015
Location: DoubleTree Hotel Campbell Center, 8250 North Central Expressway, Dallas, TX  75206
Topic: "SPOTLIGHT: Current Trends in Oil & Gas Finance and Risk Management"

Sponsored by:

In recent years, the energy industry has been the growth engine behind the Texas economy due to high crude oil prices, and the resulting surge in drilling activity and production levels. The plunge in oil prices since the summer of 2014 is driving industry-wide change and putting both operational and financial decision makers to the test.

During the DAFP evening meeting on October 15th, Christina Kitchens from East West National Energy Finance and AJ Akaydin from Energy Future Holdings will be speaking about the fundamentals of upstream oil & gas finance and risk management. The presentation will cover topics such as:

  • The current state of capital raising and M&A activity in the oil & gas industry;
  • Comparison of financing structures employed by oil & gas companies - borrowing base structures, term loans, high yield bonds, mezzanine financing, and MLP-specific issues;
  • Basics regarding upstream oil & gas financing models - production, reserves, commodity prices, and other elements;
  • Hedging and risk management considerations; and
  • Working capital and cash management considerations for the treasury professional.

Speakers:
Ms. AJ Akaydin - Director of Finance within the Treasury group at Energy Future Holdings
Ms. Christina Kitchens - Managing Group Director of East West National Energy Finance, a division of East West Bank

Networking begins at 5:30 pm with dinner at 6:15 and program to follow from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

Next Up - Don't miss the final meeting of 2015!

- Annette

BigD Financial Conference Recap

The 2015 BigD Financial Conference is in the books! We had an outstanding day of education, networking, and catching up with old friends along with making new ones. From the opening session on Cloud security, to the revelatory Keynote session at lunch, to the plethora of prizes at the reception, it was indeed a full day. For a glimpse into the day, please go to our website, www.dallasafp.org, and look for the Recap under the BigD menu!

I want to thank our sponsors, without them it would not have been possible. Also, to each person who helped with this year’s conference, it would not have been the success it was without each of your efforts! If you haven’t had a chance to be involved, you are missing out on working with a fantastic group of people! I hope you will consider being involved in the BigD Financial Conference 2016 and we hope to see everyone there!

Please let us know if you have any feedback regarding the conference at BigDConference@DallasAFP.org.

Community Involvement

Save the date, Saturday December 5th, the Dallas AFP will help support the Dallas Children's Health Holiday Parade. We will be providing additional information soon, however below is a brief description of the event.

Each December, the annual Dallas Children’s Health Holiday Parade marches through the streets of Downtown Dallas to ring in the holiday season. This year’s parade, as always, will feature spirited marching bands, holiday floats and larger-than-life balloons, among other treats.

The parade, first held in 1988, was created by The Adolphus Hotel and Children’s Medical Center as a gift to the community. The internationally acclaimed hotel and Children’s wanted to give a gift to the citizens of Dallas, for enabling both institutions to prosper. The parade has kicked off the city’s holiday season celebrations ever since.

TEXPO 2018...yes, 2018!!!

Yes, we’re already starting TEXPO 2018 planning! In October, our event coordinator, Ray Ruzek, will be in town working with us on site visits and site selection. We have two sites that are rising to the top of the list. If you have any thoughts for a venue, please let us know. Watch this space in coming months to learn where we’ll be hosting TEXPO 2018.

And, we’re starting to think about logos and taglines. For TEXPO 2012, we used "Striving for Excellence". Our most recent host city, San Antonio, used "A Financial Fiesta". We have some ideas for 2018 but would love to get your input. If you have any thoughts for a TEXPO 2018 tagline, please contact texpo@dallasafp.org. (That e-mail address goes to Stacy Roth and Ray Vines.)
